Ans. The bus was the most fascinating thing of all for Valli. It was a source of unending joy for her because it was filled each time with a new set of passengers. Their faces would kindle in her longings, dreams and hopes.

Ans. Valli heard the interesting narration of bus travellers . She also saw different people getting on and getting down from bus. This made her desire to ride on the bus stronger .

Ans. Valli came to know that the town where the bus went and returned was six miles from the village. The bus took forty five minutes to reach and an other forty five minutes to return. The fare was thirty paise for one trip.

Ans. The conductor was a fun loving, jolly fellow. For example when Valli refused his help to board the bus he said jokingly, "Don't be angry with me, fine Madam. Every one move aside please make way for madam ."

Ans. On her return journey, Valli saw a dead cow lying in the middle of the road . It was lying sprawled in a pool of blood legs spread out, lifeless eyes staring a horrible scene which made Valli sad.

Ans. Valli's favourite pastime was to stand in the front door way of her house. She did not play like most of other children as there were no playmates of her age on her street. Watching  the street also gave her many unusual experiences which were equally enjoyable .
