Kezia was afraid of her father as he never spoke kindly to her. She did not understand him and looked upon him terrible person .

There were only three persons in Kezia' family---her father , mother and grandmother (granny) . Besides them her cook , Alice.

(1) Before going to his office he came into Kezia,s room and gave her a casual goodbye kiss.
(2) After coming back home he would have his boots taken off. he demanded his tea, slippers and papers.
(3) On Sundays he stretched on the sofa, covered his face with a handkerchief, and slept.

Kezia wanted to please her father by gifting him a pin cushion on his birthday. Laboriously she made a pin cushion . She unknowingly tore her father,s important papers in to pieces and filled them into pin cushion . Later , when her father knew that Kezia had torn them, he became very angry . He beat Kezia with a ruler. Thus Kezia's effects to please her father resulted in displeasing him very much .

Mr Macdonald loved his children very much .He was perhaps not so busy and often found enough time to play with his children. He did not scold his children even for throwing water on him with a hose pipe. He laughed and enjoyed it with his children. Kezia's father was strict . He never played with his daughter . He never talked to her softly . Kezia feared him very much . She thought her father was a cruel man .In fact Kezia's father also loved his daughter, but he did not show it . He was too busy to play with her .
